best suit the three markets we constantly aim for - these three main markets
are, Ψ Production of good skinned, well fleshed shearling rams to be sold annually at the Kelso ram sales in September. Ψ Breeding top quality ram lambs to capture the pedigree breeders market, in order to do so these lambs must have extra qualities which can include depth of hair, colours of the nose and eyes and flashiness as well as maintaining all of the traits and qualities of top commercial animals - being correct on their legs and feet, with good tight skinned fleeces and well fleshed bodies. Ψ Our other main market that we focus on is the production of top quality females for stock and sale. We generally keep around 20 for stock, while the surplus females which are often twin or embryo sisters of the above, are kept for the sales in August and September as well as 20 being held back for our Select 7 in-lamb sale at the beginning of December at Lanark. Gimmers and Ewes are also held back for the in-lamb female sales at Chelford and Lanark in January. Embryo Transfer has been used successfully within the flock in order to promote and increase the numbers quality animals within the flock, this has also enabled us to be able to sell quality females from our best breeding lines.
