Ettrick Aberdeen Angus

The Ettrick Aberdeen Angus herd was set up in the winter of 2003 following the purchase of 4 in-calf rising 2year old heifers from Wedderlie. Best of the bunch was WEDDERLIE KATHICA B382 purchased for 7’500gns. The calf she was carrying then produced ETTRICK KATMANDU F027 – Reserve Supreme and Reserve Junior Champion Perth February 2008 selling for 5’500gns. Reserve Supreme Champion Perth February 2008 - Ettrick Katmandu F027 Wedderlie Kathica B382 KATHICA was purchased along with EVONORA A314, NETLASS A320 and NELBANAR A403. From the four heifers 2 bull calves and 2 heifer calves were born. Evonora’s bull calf by Wedderlie BLACKADDER – Ettrick EMALE D018 was used as a yearling and sired KATMANDU; he was then sold at Perth 2006 for 4’100gns. NELBANAR in calf to Wedderlie EBULLIENT produced Ettrick NORTHEN LIGHT D020 also used as a yearling he sold at Perth 2006 for 3’300gns. In 2007 Ettrick NERO E002 sired by JEREMY ERIC of Bridgefoot and out of NETLASS sold for 2’800gns. The next major purchase was made at the Netherton 80^th anniversary sale in 2004, in the form of Netherton BELLE A098. Bought in partnership with Robin Orr Halbeath, she has been flushed and bred exceptionally well for both herds before being bought outright in 2007 by the Ettrick herd. Ettrick BELLHAVEN F017 – her ET calf by JEREMY ERIC caught the eye at Perth in 2008 and having been used very successfully in our herd as a yearling he sold for 6’000gns. It is another BELLE son, this time by Halbeath KNIGHT, that will be used on some of the herd this year, we again have high hopes for this boy having been placed 3^rd in the national calf show at the winter fair, Ettrick BLONDIN G244 has continued to grow and develop through the winter weighing 685kg at 412days with an actual muscle scan of 105. Ettrick Blondin G244 3^rd National Calf show 2007 October 2006 Nightingale MISS BISHAMPTON A098 was purchased at Perth in calf to Auldhouseburn KARLOS. The resulting progeny was – Ettrick MISS BISHAMPTON G029 who went on to be placed 4^th in the heifer section at the Aberdeen Angus Scottish Winter Calf Show Ettrick Miss Bishampton G029 4^th National Calf show 2007 In November 2007 came the purchase of 2 quality cows in the shape of Rawburn ESTELLA B163 and Netherton RACHEL A132. ESTELLA was bought with her twin heifer calves at foot along with 3 embryos’ by Cudlobe YELLOWSTONE. ESTELLA was originally purchased by Muirhall, when female champion at Perth February 2004 for 5,000 gns. She has bred well to all service sires, her first daughter Muirhall Estella E024 was 1st prize winner at the Aberdeen Angus Scottish Winter Calf Show and Reserve Junior Champion at Perth February 2007 selling for 5,200 gns. RACHEL was purchased again from Netherton, this time at their record breaking Matron sale. This cow from an embryo imported from New Zealand is a full sister to Netherton Royal Sovereign A072 who sired Netherton FIGO C244 Supreme Champion at Perth February 2005 and sold for 30,000 gns. On the 19^th may 2008 she successfully produced her first Ettrick heifer calf – Ettrick RACHEL H047 by The Moss MR ESHTON. Netherton Rachel A132
